20th Century Pop! is a podcast that tries to understand the present by living in the past. Each week hosts Bob and Tim take a sociological look at the pop culture of the '80s and '90s. Its a ruining of their childhood that hopefully explains how they became adults.
POOP CULTURE: "Num nums, stummy aches and questionable mascots.” (1978-1998) Bob and Tim stepped up to the USB mic to record an entire episode about childhood snacks. And now ... much to their surprise … they have an entire episode about childhood snacks. So eff that apple, screw those saltines and forget all about your Ssips juice box, as its a sugar bender to remember. Which means… maybe just a couple Ssips.
00:00:00 PRE-SHOW PRATTLE - Bob’s beat-box
00:00:53 SENSORY UNDER-LOAD - so the topic is “snacks?”
00:09:06 FROM THE TOPPS - trying to talk about gum
00:16:10 THE REAL SNACK SHADY - now they’re just describing M&Ms
00:24:24 THE SUGAR OF OUR DISCONTENT - and this section is just naming breakfast foods
00:31:47 FUDGE ROUND FETISHIZING - and why not just an apple?
00:39:01 PANTRY RAID - and how are they STILL talking about snacks?
00:43:39 PASS THE TURKEY ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE - and FINALLY digesting the topic
00:50:10 CLOSINGS - contacts, plugs and no catch-phrase
Tease that hair and snort that coke to the tune of the most 80s M&M COMMERCIAL Tim could find.
Pity the talking taste buds of our Northern neighbors with this 1988 CANADIAN M&M COMMERCIAL.
Rot away for nearly 30 minutes with 33 CAP’N CRUNCH COMMERCIALS FROM 1964-1973.
Finger out the filling of this CLASSIC HOSTESS COMMERCIAL WITH TWINKIE THE KID AND HAPPY HO HO.
