094 1990S: THE MOVIE

20th Century Pop! is a podcast that tries to understand the present by living in the past.  Each week hosts Bob and Tim take a sociological look at the pop culture of the '80s and '90s.  Its a ruining of their childhood that hopefully explains how they became adults.

LIST-A-RAMA-A-GO-GO: “We’re probably not going to talk about Mr. Nanny.” (1992-1995) The 90s gave us blockbuster giants like Jurassic Park and Titanic as well as the indie fare of Pulp Fiction and Being John Malkovich.  But which of its films best represents what it was like to bear flannel in that age of sax-blowing presidents and Geocity pop ups?  Its the question Bob and Tim are going to warp their brains around as they crown the one sole and official film that best represents what it meant to be what they were in the 1990s. Spoiler alert … we don’t mention Under Siege 2.

FAIR USE OF FAIR WARNING: The following few show notes give away the semi-top secret topics of today’s discussion…

Refrain from bellowing “baby” during the OFFICIAL TRAILER FOR 1996’s SWINGERS.

Get buzzed into Bob’s mid 90s apartment with this PLAYING VIDEO GAMES CLIP FROM SWINGERS.

See what teen Tim saw as a manual for social interaction with the OFFICIAL TRAILER FOR 1992’S SINGLES.

Understand why Kurt Cobain would not have been nominated for father of the year as NIRVANA EXPLAINS WHY THEY TURNED DOWN THE MOVIE SINGLES while burping a baby.

Relate to what Bob and Tim related to with the ORIGINAL THEATRICAL TRAILER TO 1994’S CLERKS.

Get it straight from the stoner’s mouth with KEVIN SMITH: HOW AND WHY HE MADE CLERKS.

And hum along with some awful Ugly Kid Joe in this ARE YOU MENTAL SCENE FROM 1992’S WAYNE’S WORLD.
